More precious than Gold

The ordinances of the Lord are more precious than gold (Psalm 19:10)

If you are involved in an Olympic sport, the highest prize is the gold medal. The fact that the Olympics take place only once in four years means that most competitors only get one or two shots at it when they are in their peak. (If your name is Redgrave, this does not apply!)

Some world record holders and world champions are remembered for not having won the Olympic gold. In one sense what does it matter. If you run faster, jumped further than anyone else, thjat is not diminished if you did not win one particular competition out of the 10-20 you took part in that year. Unless that one is the Olympics!

See also 1Peter 1:7 These have come so that your faith - of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire - may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honour when Jesus Christ is revealed.

Peter's reminder to his readers that faith is Jesus is worth more than gold, is timely reminder to us too. If you have the talent then give it everything you have got in pursuit of the gold standard in your sport - whether as player, coach, administrator etc. But keep your focus on Jesus and on what is worth more than gold.
