Sharing the good news

This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 1 Timothy 2:3-4

God not only wants all people to come to a knowledge of the truth but he wants us to play a part. We are part of God’s saving mission.

Now we do not all have the same role. Some of us are gifted preachers and evangelists. Others are better working one-to-one with people. Others have a gift of hospitality – we make people feel comfortable; but we are not gifted at confrontational evangelism.

We may feel that we do not have the gift of evangelism at all – and that is OK. Think what a nightmare the church would be if everyone were an evangelist and there were no pastors, administrators etc.

We are all called to be witnesses. I have been in court as a witness. The judge asked me to tell the court what I had seen. It was not my job to decide who was guilty, to convince the judge the he needed to reach a certain judgement. I was not expected to understand and explain the law. I was expected to describe what had happened as I had been there and the judge had not.

Similarly as witnesses we cannot convert our sportsfriends. We may not understand a lot of theology but we can tell people what we have experienced. We can share what Jesus has done for us. And we can leave the rest to God.
