"It matters a great deal who is going to win, but not at all who won"
Psalm 37 Part 2
I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken. Psalm 37:25Last week we looked at the Psalmist’s concern that the unrighteous always seemed to be more successful in life that those who loved God. We noted that the Psalmist assured us that it would not last and that those who reject God would ultimately perish.
The Psalm is full of promises and blessings for those who love God. Verse 6 says “He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun”.
Other promises include
the LORD upholds the righteous (17)
he will give you the desires of your heart (4).
we will spend our days under the LORD’s care (18)
our inheritance will endure forever. (18)
God will not forsake us (28)
a future awaits us (37)
How do we apply these blessings to our sports life? When the coach is shouting at us or team mates seem to be having the success that we deserve. Why is it always me who is injured?
These verses should remind us that we are under God’s care and that God will never forsake us. We know too that we have an eternal future ahead of us – with Jesus forever. Now what was it that you were unhappy about?
