Psalm 33 Part 1

But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever. Psalm 33:11

Psalm 33 is a call to worship – as we will see next week. First of all let us consider why we should worship God.

The Psalm tells us (at least) six things about God.
The word of the LORD is right and true (v 4)
He is faithful in all he does. (v 4)
The LORD loves righteousness and justice. (v 5)
The earth is full of his unfailing love. (v 5)

Remember when the children ask is Aslan safe: Safe?” said Mr. Beaver; “don’t you hear what Mrs. Beaver tells you? Who said anything about safe? ‘Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.” ― C.S. Lewis, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

That is the paradox of God that he is King and all powerful but he is loving. We live in a world where everything fails at some time but the Psalm refers to God’s love – 3 times – as “unfailing love”.

Writing on this Psalm, Karl Martin says God’s DNA is love and his predisposition towards us and future generations is love.

Let us be thankful for God’s unfailing love which does not depend on anything we can do, As Philip Yancey says: “There is nothing you can do to make God love you more; there is nothing you can do to make God love you less”.

Take those words with you onto the field, the track or the court. Take them to practice with you.
