“All I know most surely about morality and obligation I owe to football”,

Albert Camus

Psalm 117

Praise the Lord, all you nations; extol him, all you peoples. For great is his love towards us, and the faithfulness of the LORD endures forever. Praise the Lord. Psalm 117

It is the Psalmist's contention that the purpose of human life is to praise God. That is why we were created - to know God, to love him, to serve him and to praise him.

We are to praise him in everything we do. For most of us reading this, that will include sport.

There are two reasons why we should praise him - his love and his faithfulness. Sport is a world of change and uncertainty - injury, losing your place in the team, no new contract, financial problems can come and go but God's love and faithfulness remain.

In a world of self-made people the idea of recognizing a power greater than ourselves and praising him is a foreign concept. Yet it is at the heart of Christian belief that we cannot manage on our own. We need God every minute of the day. And it doesn't end here as he has promised to take us to be with himself forever. That is really love and faithfulness and a reason to praise him!
