"there has only ever been one perfect man, the Lord Jesus, and we killed him. I only missed a putt."
The Father has sent his Son
And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Saviour of the world. I John 4:14In 13 words John sums up the gospel and gives us a life-changing message: “the Father has sent his Son to be the Saviour of the world”.
We have not literally seen Jesus but we can believe that it is true, that God the Father sent his Son Jesus into the world in order to save it. And if we believe it, we have passed from death to life (1 John 3:14).
Some religions require you to keep endless rules – some sports too! The Christian faith is utterly simple, either you believe that Jesus is who he said he is or you don’t.
Believing in Jesus does not make you run faster, jump further or play better but it frees you from having to prove yourself by your performance. And because he is Saviour our sins, wrong-doings and failures are all taken care off.
PS Let me quote, not for the first time:
if your greatest need was information, God would have sent a teacher.
If your greatest need was technology, God would have sent a scientist.
If your greatest need was money, God would have sent a financial expert.
If your greatest need was pleasure and fun, God would have sent an entertainer.
But your greatest need is forgiveness. Therefore God sent a saviour!
