If I had to choose between my wife and my putter... well, I’d miss her.
Children of God
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! I John 3:1Last week we remembered how much God loves us. He loves us so much that Jesus died for us. He loves us so much that he will take us to live with him forever after death.
An even more amazing consequence of his love is that we are children of God! At the Beijing Olympics, the British Chef de Mission introduced his team to the media with the words that the GB Olympic Team was an elite group of people. No amount of money could buy you a place on the team. You had to earn it by your performances on the track, in the pool, on the court etc.
As you read this you may well be working towards selection for your country’s team for Rio 2016. That is a noble ambition. May God bless your efforts! But not everyone can become an Olympian.
Being a child of God is open to everyone. All you have to do is believe that Jesus is who he says he is and believe that he died for you. Being a member of an Olympic team is earned by your performance, it is something you deserve. Being a child of God is all about grace, unmerited favour from God. If you make an Olympic team once that is great, 2-3 Olympics would be normal, 4-5 exceptional. Being a child of God is something that will last for ever – as the song says “for 10,000 years and then forever more”.
Reflect on how amazing it is to be a child of God and thank Him for the privilege.
