"It matters a great deal who is going to win, but not at all who won"
An unusual Easter
We believe that Jesus died and rose again. 1 Thessalonians 4:14Have you ever known an Easter like it? For me it was virtual communion with my church – bread and wine in our lounge linked with church friends via Zoom on the computer – celebrating the death and resurrection of Jesus as part of our lockdown life.
What can we take from Easter as we move forward into – it seems – several more months of lockdown? Ian Bradley, writing in The Times newspaper at the weekend, expressed it well: “The Easter Sunday message is that death and darkness are decisively vanquished and we need no longer fear them”. Easter is not just an historical fact but a living experience – and one that lasts forever.
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce tweeted: ‘“One day we're gonna close our eyes to the sky for the last time. But the last time will be the first time of a whole new life” Happy Resurrection day Jesus!’
Times are hard for a lot of people at the moment but in Jesus we have a hope that will never let us down and never end. The starting point is, as Paul told the Thessalonians, to believe that Jesus died and rose again.
