832 pages of facts, figures and analysis of athletics. The book includes profiles of 400 athletes with 300 pictures.
All time world lists are included for each event – about 16 pages per event full on notes on which performances were potentially influences by altitude, wind, hand-timing and where the performance as recorded is deemed dubious.
For each event there is a profile of the greatest ever in the event with shorter profiles on the next 9 athletes. I some cases the authors go beyond 10 – with honourable mentions for additional athletes.
My experience of using the book is that you open it to check one fact and 15 minutes later you are still reading it, having been distracted by a plethora of other interesting facts – now what was it I was looking up!
The book is an essential for the serious athletics writer, coach etc. At the same time it will provide a wealthy of enjoyment for the athletics fan.
